House Rules

Rental House Rules

The finer details for a smooth, lovely event

These rules apply to private space rentals at our Oost location — The Mezzanine and The Glass House — and any catering tied to those events. For everyday café visits, just pop in.

These rules exist so every event runs without a hitch and every guest, yours and ours, has a good time. Most of it is common-sense stuff; some of it's the proper detail you'll want to know before you book. Have a read, and shout if anything's unclear.

Booking & Payment

Securing your booking — A 25% deposit confirms your date. The remaining balance is settled within 14 days after the event.

Cancellations — Up to 3 days before the event, cancellations are fully refundable. Anything closer to the day is non-refundable, though we can usually reschedule depending on availability. Tell us as early as you can and we'll do our best to be flexible.

Payment methods — Invoice or bank transfer. We don't accept card payments for event bookings.

Using the space

Access & setup — The space is yours from 30 minutes before your event for setup, and we'd ask you to be packed up within 30 minutes after. Need more time on either end? Just say so when booking; extra hours are charged at the additional-hour rate.

Capacity — Please stick to the maximum capacities listed for each space. They exist for safety and comfort, not bureaucracy.

Restricted areas — The kitchen and staff-only areas are off-limits to guests and event staff unless we've agreed otherwise. Please keep your group within your rented space.

Children — Very welcome, always. We just ask that a grown-up keeps an eye on them, since the café next door is a working café with other guests. Any damage from unsupervised kids is the client's responsibility, and in rare cases we may ask for extra adult supervision or end an event early if it can't be safely managed.

Setup & decorations

What's welcome — Decorate the space and make it yours. Balloons, arches, garlands, string lights and the like are all fine, as long as they come down with you at the end.

What's not — Nothing stuck to walls, windows or ceilings without checking with us first. No confetti, glitter or open-flame candles. Battery candles are fine.

Setup time — All setup and breakdown happens within your booked window. Early access or extra time may incur additional fees. Everything you brought in goes home with you at the end of the event.

Food & drinks

Final numbers & menu — We need final headcount and menu choices by the Monday before for Tue–Fri events, or by the Thursday before for Sat–Mon events. The same goes for dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, allergies — all welcome, just give us notice). After that point, a 10% increase in numbers is fine at no extra charge. Reductions after final numbers can't be refunded.

Outside food & drink — Food and drinks come from our kitchen, with two friendly exceptions: your own birthday cake, and your own bottles. The fees (subject to change):

  • BYO cake — €2.50 per person (covers plates, forks and slicing)
  • Beer corkage — €2.50 per bottle
  • Wine corkage — €10 per bottle
  • Spirits corkage — €25 per bottle

Cleanup & waste

Before you leave — Take your decorations and personal belongings with you. Pop any rubbish in the bins we'll point out. We'll handle the proper cleaning afterward.

Excess waste — If a significant amount of waste ends up outside the bins, a €49 cleanup fee applies. In practice, this almost never comes up.

Liability & damage

Damage — The client is responsible for any damage to the venue, furniture or equipment during the event. Costs exceeding the deposit are billed afterward.

Liability — The venue isn't responsible for loss, theft or injury during the event. We recommend event insurance for larger or more elaborate gatherings.

Health & safety — Please make sure your guests know where the emergency exits are. Fire exits must stay clear at all times.

Outside vendors

Approval — Any outside vendors (photographers, florists, DJs, etc.) need to be cleared with us first. Once we know who's coming, we can give them the setup window and the rules.

Access — Vendors arrive within your allocated setup time and leave by the event's end.

Responsibility — Vendors are responsible for their own kit and any damage they cause. The venue isn't liable for issues caused by third parties you've hired.

Production & photo shoots

Be mindful of other guests — Our café stays open during most rentals, with regular customers in. Anything disruptive to their experience isn't on.

Photography at BLUEY'S — Photos inside and outside are welcome, as long as they don't disturb other guests. Please consult us beforehand and get consent from anyone identifiable.

Power access — Plenty of outlets throughout the café. The team can point them out, and please tuck cables away for safety.

Hair, makeup, clothing

  • Allowed with care — Steaming clothes, light use of hairspray or deodorant, that sort of thing.
  • By prior arrangement only — Haircuts and nail polishing. These can affect daily café operations, so we need to plan around them.

Questions?

Any of this unclear, or got a specific situation that isn't covered? Just ask. hello@blueys.nl or +31 6 25328946 — we'd much rather sort it together upfront than have surprises on the day.
