Wait — Who's Bluey?
Where our name comes from. (It involves a cow. A very good cow.)
People assume "Bluey's" is named after someone — a founder, a grandparent, a beloved dog. The real answer is better.
We're named after a beach. The beach is named after a cow. And honestly, the cow deserves the credit.
Meet Bluey
Bluey lived on a beach in Australia. He was a sweet cow — everyone's friend, with the best milk for miles around. But he had another side too: bold, adventurous, a real pioneer.
When Bluey grazed, he always went for the greenest grass. And the greenest grass, of course, was right out at the edge. So that's where he'd go — seeking out the edges, quite literally.
Sometimes a little too literally.
One day, our sweet Bluey wandered one step too far, went over the edge, and drowned. Heartbreaking. And ever since that day, his beach has been called Blueys Beach.
Rest easy, Bluey.
How he ended up on Zeeburgereiland
When we were dreaming up our café, we wanted Bluey's spirit baked into it: friendly to everyone, the best stuff on the menu, and brave enough to go for the greenest grass. Sydney-style coffee and all-day brunch, on an island in Amsterdam-Oost — with a name that came all the way from that Australian beach.
And because we couldn't let Bluey be forgotten, we did the only right thing: we adopted a cow. She lives at the farm that supplies our milk, with a very good life out in the grass. So every flat white here traces straight back to Bluey — to the best milk on the beach, and a cow who always went for the edge.
So now you know. Not named after a person — named after a beach, named after a cow who lived a little too boldly and is still remembered for it.
Come say hi, have a coffee, raise it to Bluey.
